Biography
Frances E. Walton (born March 16, 1922) of Lot 18, Concession 8, was a nurse in the Kingston and Rideau Military Hospitals from March 1945 to May 1946. Following this she took a post graduate course at Western University in London and received her Diploma in Public Health Nursing. She then worked for the Oxford County Public Health Unit for 2 years covering the townships of West Zorra and East Nissouri. On June 28, 1949, she re-enlisted in the army and served in the Korean War, in the Far East, and in Germany from 1958-1960. She spent 25 years with the Canadian Army Medical Corps. Her decorations included the War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea, a NATO special service medal and bar; the United Nations Service Medal for Korea, the 2002 Queens Golden Jubilee Medal; and the Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. In October of 1971 one acre of land was severed from the north-east corner of SE 1/4 of lot 18, concession 8 (farm owned by her father Robert Walton since 1919) and it was here that Frances built her retirement home. As of Spring 2013 Frances continues to be active and enjoy life in the local community. Sadly she passed away on March 22, 2019.
