Biography

Daniel Munro(e), a son of James and Christina [Corbett] Munro(e), emigrated to Embro in the 1850's with his parents and siblings (brothers William, Jonathon, and Alexander, and sister Jessie - sister Margaret and brother James were born in Embro).  He was a plasterer by trade.  Daniel served  with the 22nd Battalion, Oxford Rifles to defend against the Fenian Raids.  As reward for service, Daniel received a land grant in Thunder Bay District, Ontario.  Daniel married Annie Chittick and moved to Dorchester, Ontario, where he died in 1905.  Many records of that time spell the family name as Munroe, but others display the Munro spelling that the family uses today: hence the use of Munroe in reference to Daniel.
