Biography
Charles William Gordon was born Sept. 13, 1860, in Glengarry County. When he was 10, he moved with his parents and siblings to Harrington West. In 1903 he became a doctor and practised in London, Ontario. In 1906 he moved to Winnipeg, where he enlisted with the 43rd Canadian Expeditionary Force and served with the 9th Regiment. In 1915, after it was nearly wiped out, he joined the 61st Battalion as a medical officer with the rank of Captain. He later commanded the 12th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery, until he was gassed and was designated "invalided" in 1917.
