Biography

Leading Aircraft Woman Jean Vining was the daughter of Elizabeth Agnes Duffin and James Gordon Vining. She  enlisted in the Royal Candian Air Force in 1942. Jean worked in the Filter Operation Room in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was then posted to Newfoundland where both she and her sister served with the American Forces at Fort Pepperrell. She married Flight Sergeant Shapter and when she became pregnant, she was granted discharge in 1943. Her husband was killed in an armed reconnaissance flight in 1944.
