Alexander McDonald Ross of East Nissouri was a Squadron Quarter-Master Sergeant of A Squadron, 24th Regiment Grey’s Horse, a militia cavalry regiment in Oxford Militia and Waterloo counties that was founded in 1908. In 1910 Alexander was responsible for rations, quarters, and supplies.
The 1910 picture shows a mixture of uniforms and farmer’s straw hats, indicating that they are the rank and file soldiers. Some of them have been awarded their stripes but they are just on their shirts as they do not have a full uniform yet. The regiment remained active until WW1.
