John Carroll Junior was a son of John Carroll Senior, who is said to be one of the first white settlers in the area. It is believed that Mr. Carroll purchased the present day Lots 23 and 24 of Concession 1 from the Indians. John Carroll Jr. was killed in 1814 by a friend who thought he was an enemy soldier. Captain Carroll is buried in West Oxford United Church Cemetery.
